The United Longhorns entered their tilt with the Clemens Buffaloes with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. United took down Clemens 84-67 on Tuesday. Given United's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Clemens is ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jesslynn Jalomo, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 6 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of United's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandra Idrogo, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Clemens lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Atiana Cook, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Cook hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Anaya Williams, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Clemens were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as United only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
United pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.5 points per game. As for Clemens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-6 record this season.
United will face off against Edinburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 69 points per game. Clemens will be home for the holidays to greet Reagan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
