The Southern Nash Firebirds are taking a road trip to challenge the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Nash has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 135 points over their last three matchups.
Southern Nash is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Southern Wayne to the tune of 56-6 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Firebirds' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Saints are ranked 356th).
Southern Nash got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Camron Lyons out in front who rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown, and also caught one score. Dj Baker was another key rusher, rushing for 82 yards and one TD on only six carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southern Nash was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 252 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Another reason for the win was Southern Nash's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Zion Odom was especially locked on to Southern Wayne's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for C.B. Aycock's offense. They had to suffer through a 52-0 loss at the hands of Hunt. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, the Golden Falcons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Southern Nash's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.3 points over those games. As for C.B. Aycock, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Southern Nash has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 380.2 total yards per game. It's a different story for C.B. Aycock, though, as they've been averaging only 190.8 total yards. Will Southern Nash be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Golden Falcons flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Southern Nash against C.B. Aycock in their previous meeting back in September of 2021, as the team secured a 43-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Firebirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
