Even though the Northwest Halifax Vikings scored an imposing 61 points on Thursday, the North Edgecombe Warriors still came out on top. In a tight match that could have gone either way, North Edgecombe made off with a 62-61 win over Northwest Halifax. This was payback for North Edgecombe, who suffered a 59-52 loss the last time these two teams met.
North Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Diamond Wilson, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was ChyAsia Garrett, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Northwest Halifax still got an impressive performance from Camaya Adkins, who scored 31 points. That was a full 50.8% of Northwest Halifax's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taniya High, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
North Edgecombe's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Northwest Halifax, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Edgecombe will take on Northampton County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northampton County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.1 points per game. As for Northwest Halifax, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vance County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Vance County is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
