The Wardlaw Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Cambridge Academy, falling 39-8. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wardlaw Academy has scored all season.
Cambridge Academy was led to victory by Jillian Mapes and Izzy Southerland. Mapes scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Southerland scored eight points along with seven steals and six blocks. That makes it six consecutive games in which Mapes has scored at least 25% of Cambridge Academy's points. Indya Southerland was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Wardlaw Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 17-7 record last season and are now at 1-4. As for Cambridge Academy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Wardlaw Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Newberry Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Newberry Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Cambridge Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Laurens Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Laurens Academy will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
