Fredericktown is 0-10 against Ste. Genevieve since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Black Cats will venture away from home to challenge the Dragons at 6:15 p.m. Fredericktown will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, it was close, but Fredericktown sidestepped Herculaneum for a 4-2 win.
The team relied heavily on Easton Wood, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Mason Proffer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Fredericktown hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Ste. Genevieve suffered their closest loss since March 31st on Thursday. They fell just short of Valle Catholic by a score of 5-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Dragons in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost five in a row.
Ste. Genevieve saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Ferranto, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Fredericktown's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ste. Genevieve, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Ste. Genevieve's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Fredericktown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ste. Genevieve, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Fredericktown keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Fredericktown suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Ste. Genevieve when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Black Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
