Softball Recap: Independence's Winning Streak Snapped at 11 Games

Independence dropped their record down to 11-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Gunderson Grizzlies by a score of 6-5. The 76ers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Grizzlies earlier this season, when they won 9-7.

Independence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julieta Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was Ramirez's first of the season.

As for Gunderson, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.5 runs.

On Gunderson's side, Dezirae Regalado made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Regalado was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Vejar, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Independence will challenge rival Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gunderson is set to take on their familiar foe Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
