The Pomperaug Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Stratford Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Pomperaug was the victim of a tough 43-22 loss at the hands of Masuk.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Johnny Gogas, who rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Pomperaug's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Masuk's QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. Masuk's QB won't forget Chris Elovecky anytime soon given Elovecky sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Stratford, who are still winless after their sixth match. They suffered a tough 36-16 defeat at the hands of New Milford two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, Stratford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while New Milford is ranked 36th).
The losing side was boosted by Kyle Ray, who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Pomperaug's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Stratford, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-6.
Pomperaug took their win against Stratford when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 20-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pomperaug since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
