The Desert Mountain Wolves will take on the Verrado Vipers at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Desert Mountain will be looking to extend their current 24-game winning streak.
Desert Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Willow Canyon with a sharp 10-3 victory. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by six runs or more this season.
Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Zoe Horning was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Gabby Borovansky also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Desert Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Verrado entered their tilt with Notre Dame Prep on Tuesday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They came out on top against the Saints by a score of 5-1.
Jill Ryan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaiden Stell, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaa Holliday, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Desert Mountain's win was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-1-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Verrado, their record now sits at 27-4.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Verrado struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert Mountain beat Verrado 3-0 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
