Alex Fox was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Cocalico: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 0-14 otherwise.
Fox wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dane Horning, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Nick McArdle also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Garden Spot's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 15-5 to Donegal.
Like Cocalico, Garden Spot also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryder Hertzler. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Hertzler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Garden Spot now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Cocalico, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Cocalico couldn't quite get it done against Garden Spot in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 8-3. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
