The Dana Hills Dolphins waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They walked away with an 82-75 victory over El Toro. Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while El Toro is ranked 575th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, El Toro had strong showings from Christian Jimenez, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Lydo Smith, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Bass, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Dana Hills pushed their record up to 18-4 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.1 points per game. As for El Toro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dana Hills will take on Aliso Niguel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for El Toro, they will head out on the road to square off against Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Viejo is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
