Despite the loss, Dolores Huerta Prep had strong showings from Jaqueline Murillo Perez, who scored five points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Kate Torres, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 38.9% of Dolores Huerta Prep's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Elbert to victory were Melanie Hermes and Riley Maloney. Hermes scored five points along with ten rebounds and five assists, while Maloney scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maloney has scored all season.
Dolores Huerta Prep has not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Elbert, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-10.
Dolores Huerta Prep will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Thomas MacLaren School at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Dolores Huerta Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Elbert, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Miami-Yoder at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Elbert is coming into the contest with four straight wins on the road, so Miami-Yoder is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
