The Tygarts Valley Bulldogs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Highland Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Tygarts Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Tygarts Valley fell victim to Waterford and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 7-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.
Tygarts Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Teter, who went 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was Teter's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Highland had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Craig County on Thursday.
John Wagner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Armstrong, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Tristan Carpenter was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Highland's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Tygarts Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Tygarts Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Tygarts Valley's way against Highland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Tygarts Valley made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
