Basketball Game Preview: Denver South Ravens vs. Northfield Nighthawks

An exciting North v. South battle is about to be fought. The Denver South Ravens will be playing at home against the Northfield Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Denver South knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Northfield likes a good challenge.

Denver South will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Denver East, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Denver South walked away with a 66-55 victory over Denver East on Wednesday.

Denver South can attribute much of their success to Brody Shepherd, who went 7 of 10 en route to 21 points and six assists, and Dominic Rhoades-Martinez, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Shepherd is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Shane Bierle was another key player, putting up four points and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Denver South was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver East only racked up ten assists.

Meanwhile, Northfield posted their closest win since December 13, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past Vista PEAK Prep 55-52. Given the Nighthawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Bison are ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northfield's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Denver South, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Denver South might still be hurting after the 72-47 loss they got from Northfield in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Denver South avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
