The Cathedral Prep Ramblers will head out on the road to face off against the McDowell Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cathedral Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Cathedral Prep will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Fort LeBoeuf on Wednesday. The Ramblers blew past the Bison 23-11. The Ramblers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.
Andrew Costello was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Davin Friedman was another key player, going 3-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Cathedral Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, McDowell waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Huskies, sneaking past 2-0. The Trojans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.
McDowell also got a great performance from Justice Laird as he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. Laird has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Evan Stranko was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Cathedral Prep has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for McDowell, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cathedral Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like McDowell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Cathedral Prep's way against McDowell when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Cathedral Prep made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ramblers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
