William Floyd and Brentwood are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The William Floyd Colonials will head out on the road to take on the Brentwood Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (William Floyd has 14 straight wins, Brentwood has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, William Floyd gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 67-47 margin over Patchogue-Medford.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead William Floyd to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shy Hawkins, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hawkins has scored all season. Kayla Gilmore was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Brentwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 39-33 to Walt Whitman. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Brentwood in their matchups with Walt Whitman: they've now lost four in a row.
William Floyd pushed their record up to 18-1 with that win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Brentwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
William Floyd didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Brentwood in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 48-42 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for William Floyd since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
