Northland Lutheran and Port Edwards are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2020, but not for long. The Wildcats will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Blackhawks at 7:00 p.m. Port Edwards took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Northland Lutheran, who comes in off a win.
Northland Lutheran took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on White Lake with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now won seven in a row.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-16, 25-6.
Northland Lutheran can attribute much of their success to Natalie Ostrowski, who had 14 digs.
Northland Lutheran was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 19 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Port Edwards lost 3-0 to Wild Rose on Tuesday. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Port Edwards was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Wild Rose work for it, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-15, 27-25, 25-19.
Northland Lutheran will have to keep a close watch on Hayden Kleifgen and Evelyn Fletcher, a pair of players who had a big impact on Port Edwards' prior game. Kleifgen had 22 digs and one assist, while Fletcher had four digs and two aces. Kleifgen has been hot recently, having posted 20 or more digs the last three times she's played. Kaelyn Green also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Port Edwards' loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Northland Lutheran, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
