Basketball Game Preview: Pikesville Panthers vs. Eastern Tech Mavericks

The Pikesville Panthers will face off against the Eastern Tech Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pikesville is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

Pikesville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Chesapeake 88-23. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Pikesville found their leader in sophomore Ka?Nai Pyatt, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pyatt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mariah Jones-Bey, who posted 11 points along with seven steals and five assists.

Pikesville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Eastern Tech hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They secured a 35-29 W over Carver A&T on Tuesday.

Pikesville pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.9 points per game. As for Eastern Tech, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Everything came up roses for Pikesville against Eastern Tech in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 72-17 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pikesville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
