After flying high against the Union City Chargers last Thursday, the Quincy Orioles came back down to earth. Quincy was dealt a 63-31 defeat at the hands of Springport on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Quincy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 545th, while Springport is ranked 230th).
Leading Springport to victory were Chloey Speer and Maddux Locke. Speer scored 18 points along with three steals, while Locke scored 18 points along with nine assists and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Speer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Crittenden, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Quincy dropped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.1 points per game. As for Springport, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Quincy will head out on the road to challenge Jonesville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Springport, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Bronson at 7:00 p.m. Bronson is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
