Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Richter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Murray over Woods Cross

If Murray was feeling good fresh off their 56-21 takedown of Hillcrest last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between the Murray Spartans and the Woods Cross Wildcats didn't end well, with the Murray Spartans falling 56-40. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Murray's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Richter, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Richter has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Scherbel, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

Woods Cross was led to victory by Grace MacArthur and Ili Crockett. MacArthur dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Crockett dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Crockett a new career-high in boards. Kiyomi Tauataina was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Murray's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Woods Cross, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Murray wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-35 loss against Jordan on the 13th. As for Woods Cross, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Davis at 7:00 p.m.
