Montgomery proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-11 victory over Princeton. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 19, 2025.
Ryane Riddell was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison McKnight, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Wallkill Valley hit South Hunterdon with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 12-3 to the Rangers.
South Hunterdon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiera Craven, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Montgomery pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for South Hunterdon, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
South Hunterdon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montgomery hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for South Hunterdon, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Montgomery's hitters?
Montgomery suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to South Hunterdon when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
