Ellicott has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Florence Huskies at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Ellicott was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 37-31 to Banning Lewis Academy.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kassiah Ducworth, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Ducworth is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Nova Erickson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Florence's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 90-6 loss at the hands of Colorado Springs Christian. While losing is never fun, Florence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Colorado Springs Christian is ranked 48th).
Ellicott's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Florence, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Ellicott against Florence in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 64-7 win. With Ellicott ahead 44-2 at the half, the match was all but over already.
