Baseball Recap: Dunbar Has No Trouble Against Forest Park

Dunbar had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Forest Park on Thursday. The Poets were the clear victors by a 16-10 margin over the Foresters. Considering the Poets have won three matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Angel Chavarria made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chavarria was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Kevin Delcid looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Dunbar got a massive performance out of Zion Foster, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Foster's first of the season. Jonathan Parks was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.

Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Dunbar pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Forest Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4-1.

Coming up, Dunbar will head out to square off against Academy for College and Career Exploration at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Dunbar's pitchers better be ready for this one: Academy for College and Career Exploration has averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Forest Park, they will face off against Mergenthaler Vo-Tech on Monday.
