The Middletown Islanders will head out on the road to face off against the Exeter-West Greenwich Scarlet Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Middletown has now lost 16 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 11.
Last Tuesday, Middletown ended up a good deal behind Central Falls and lost 47-31.
Middletown might have lost, but man, Ella Bolano was a machine: she scored 23 points. Bolano continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Exeter-West Greenwich faced Lincoln in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Exeter-West Greenwich fell to Lincoln 51-47.
Despite their defeat, Exeter-West Greenwich saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ella Johnson, who scored 14 points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Kendall Husband was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Even though they lost, Exeter-West Greenwich were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Middletown dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Exeter-West Greenwich, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.
Middletown came up short against Exeter-West Greenwich in their previous matchup back in January, falling 45-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Exeter-West Greenwich's Emma Mears, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
