There's no place like home for Mar Vista, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They slipped by the Southwest SD Raiders 40-39 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Mariners in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won nine in a row.

Mar Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylon Shumate led the charge by picking up 86 receiving yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 87 yards and one score on only eight carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 54 yards. Ciontae Fewell did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 115 receiving yards.

Mar Vista didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Enrique Montoya and Fewell. Fewell also posted 115 receiving yards, which is notable because Mar Vista is undefeated when he posts at least 80 receiving yards, but 1-4 otherwise.

Despite the loss, Southwest SD still got an impressive performance from Samuel Gonzales, who rushed for 246 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. With that strong performance, Gonzales is now averaging an impressive 105.6 rushing yards per game.

The win got Mar Vista back to even at 4-4. As for Southwest SD, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
