Sumner has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Middleton Tigers at 7:03 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Sumner put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-8 victory over Newsome at home. Given Sumner's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Newsome is ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Greg Smith III, who threw for 185 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Malik Brown was in the mix too, providing Sumner with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Middleton entered their tilt with King with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Middleton breezed by King at home to the tune of 36-7.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Middleton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryan Hunter, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Hunter was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Mccullough, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Another reason for the win was Middleton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Keyonte Artis and Joseph Doston who racked up four sacks between them.
Sumner's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.6 points per game. As for Middleton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Sumner has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 350.4 total yards per game. It's a different story for Middleton, though, as they've been averaging only 193.9 per game. Will Sumner be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Middleton flip the ?
