The Marlin Bulldogs came tearing into Friday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 77-63 win over Dawson. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Marlin was led to victory by Jaidan Womack and Aarik Smith-shelley. Womack scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Smith-shelley scored 15 points along with five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacorian Johnson, who scored 12 points along with six assists.
Despite the loss, Dawson still got an impressive performance from Elijah Allen, who scored 37 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Allen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Hastin Easley, who scored ten points.
Marlin pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points per game. As for Dawson, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Marlin will head out on the road to challenge the Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Axtell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1085th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 447th). As for Dawson, they will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
