The Champion Golden Flashes came tearing into Monday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 52-47 W over LaBrae. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Champion also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Champion's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addie Warzala led the charge by scoring seven points along with seven steals and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Haynie, who scored 16 points.
Despite the defeat, LaBrae saw an underclassman step up: Mariah Jones dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ella Kuszmaul, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, LaBrae smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Champion only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Champion's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for LaBrae, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Champion the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Memorial at 6:15 p.m. on January 25th. Memorial is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for LaBrae, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Brookfield at 7:00 p.m. Brookfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 628th, while LaBrae is ranked 255th).
