Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Fairfax Lions on Monday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Kayla Carpenter made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, University got a massive performance out of Ashley Arauz-Augustin, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Arauz-Augustin has posted since back in May of 2024. Kayla Anzora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
University's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Fairfax, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.
