Northern Guilford (Greensboro, N.C.) scored 18 points in the third quarter to secure a big 32-0 victory over Eastern Guilford (Gibsonville, N.C.) on Saturday.
The Nighthawks scored on a
T.J. Logan touchdown run, a defensive touchdown and a touchdown run by
Chris Ripberger in the quarter.
Northern Guilford was up 7-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Logan in the first quarter.
NG expanded its lead to 25 points entering the fourth quarter. The Greensboro school scored three times in the third, including once on a Logan touchdown run.
With the win the Nighthawks extended their winning streak to six games. Northern Guilford defeated the Eagles 49-7 last week.
NG's standout player in the win was Logan. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
The Nighthawks went into the matchup giving up only 5.6 points per game. The zero points that the Wildcats ended with were well below their average of 7.8 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Northern Guilford came away with a 48-0 victory.
The loss comes after Eastern Guilford defeated Morehead 33-32 last week.
Eastern Guilford (2-5) goes up against Rockingham County in a 3A Mid-State game matchup next week, while Northern Guilford (6-0) locks horns with McMichael also in a 3A Mid-State game.
