Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mansfield Legacy). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 win over the Weatherford Kangaroos on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Broncos needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
J-Uan Harrison Jr. produced another solid effort rushing for 242 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Jenkins, who threw for 194 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Mansfield Legacy's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Cutter Kennedy three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Carson Cox, Jaxson Lacy, and Lamar Lewis, who each picked up one sack apiece. Cox was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 25 total tackles.
Jakob Hemphill and Kennedy certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hemphill gained 294 total yards and three touchdowns, while Kennedy threw for 442 yards and three TDs while completing 73.8% of his passes. Dj Quimby helped Kennedy out on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and one score on only ten carries.
Mansfield Legacy moved to 3-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Weatherford, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mansfield Legacy will host Boswell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Weatherford, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Crowley at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
