Baseball Recap: Ida Baker Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lely last Thursday, Ida Baker came back down to earth. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Oasis Sharks by a score of 8-7 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 last Monday.

Aiden Long was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ida Baker's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 6-12 when he doesn't). Robbie Hensley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Ida Baker's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Oasis, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-12.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Ida Baker will welcome Immokalee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Oasis, they will head out to take on First Baptist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Sharks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
