After both having extra time off, the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets and the Teays Valley Vikings will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Vernon will be strutting in after a victory while Teays Valley will be coming in after a defeat.
While Mt. Vernon has struggled at home with four straight losses , that wasn't the case on Monday thanks to Audrey Stuller. The Yellowjackets walked away with a 3-1 win over Hayes with plenty of help from Stuller, who had 36 digs. She has been hot, having posted 19 or more digs the last eight times she's played.
Mt. Vernon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19.

Mt. Vernon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addison Komitau led the charge by getting 30 assists and seven digs. That's the most assists Komitau has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Davis, who had eight aces and seven digs.
Mt. Vernon was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Teays Valley came up short against Logan last Thursday, falling 3-0. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
Teays Valley was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-15.
Mt. Vernon will have to contain Ellie Tatman as she made an impact in Teays Valley's last game. She had 24 digs. Emma Minton was another key player, getting 14 assists and nine digs.
Mt. Vernon's record is now 7-14. As for Teays Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's match: Mt. Vernon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Teays Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mt. Vernon couldn't quite get it done against Teays Valley in their previous meeting back in September as they fell 2-0. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
