Oak Harbor posted their closest victory since April 21st on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Maumee Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 back in April.
Nolan Bickelhaupt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Butzin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Rife, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Oak Harbor's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Maumee, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-5 record.
