4A Mideastern recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rose, who took down 92nd ranked Laney, 47-44.
The Rampants moved up to 104 from 132 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Mideastern. Rose was able to make the jump by beating the Buccaneers 47-44.
Quincy Rhodes was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 161 yards as Ashley topped Hoggard. Teammate Anthony Andrews added to the ground attack by rushing for 36 yards.
Josh Taylor provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bears beat the Vikings. He completed 14 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 135 yards. Taylor's favorite target this week was Cherry, who caught four passes for 116 yards.
Tariq Lane threw for 226 yards and five touchdowns. He went 13-21 with one interceptions.
New Bern's Taylor and Cherry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Taylor has thrown for 1442 yards this season, while Cherry, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 21 catches for 458 yards. Rhodes from Ashley leads the league in rushing with 1227 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Mideastern this week will be when New Hanover takes on Laney. As it stands, the Wildcats are in second, while Greg Ditz's team is in fourth.
Bobby Curlings' team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hoggard, 39-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
