The Laney Buccaneers will venture away from home to take on the North Brunswick Scorpions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Laney's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so North Brunswick's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Laney will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating New Hanover, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Laney put the hurt on New Hanover with a sharp 6-0 win on Tuesday. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

TJ Ziermann made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Owen Gore, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jackson Noon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, North Brunswick had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out South Brunswick 2-1 on Tuesday.
Tyler Kelly looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for North Brunswick: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two hits, but 1-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Aydean White was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Laney has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. North Brunswick's record now sits at 5-6.
Laney came out on top in a nail-biter against North Brunswick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Will Laney repeat their success, or does North Brunswick has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
