In what's become a running theme this season, Quincy gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They put the hurt on Rock Island with a sharp 56-33 win. Given Quincy's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Rock Island is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taylor Fohey was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Myley Longcor, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Springfield Southeast posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Decatur Eisenhower as Springfield Southeast made off with a 66-45 win.
Springfield Southeast relied on the efforts of Navehua Collier, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Marisa Gant, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Gant has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rakiyah Coleman, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Quincy's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-5. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.18 points. As for Springfield Southeast, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Quincy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.2 points per game. It's a different story for Springfield Southeast, though, as they've been averaging only 47.6 points per game. The only thing between Quincy and another offensive beatdown is Springfield Southeast. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Quincy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Springfield Southeast when the teams last played back in January of 2018, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory.
