If the Mendocino Cardinals were riding high off their 57-32 takedown of the Anderson Valley Panthers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mendocino took a hard 70-54 fall against the Pirates on Saturday. Mendocino was down 55-34 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Theo Hahn, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Zeramby, who scored 12 points.
Fernando Lopez was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds for Point Arena. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Derek Billy, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Mendocino's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-8. As for Point Arena, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-5.
Mendocino will head out on the road to square off against the Mustangs on Tuesday. Round Valley will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Point Arena will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Anderson Valley has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
