City of Life Christian Academy and Orlando Christian Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. City of Life Christian Academy will venture away from home to challenge Orlando Christian Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, City of Life Christian Academy earned a 6-3 victory over Real Life Christian Academy.
Gabriel Cepeda was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Luis Marcelino, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.
City of Life Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Real Life Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .387.
Orlando Christian Prep never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Crusaders. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Seth Vasquez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Vasquez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Orlando Christian Prep's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Orlando Christian Prep got a massive performance out of Brayden Schuster, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Schuster has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Reis, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
City of Life Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orlando Christian Prep, their record is now 8-6.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. City of Life Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Orlando Christian Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
City of Life Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 18-4 loss they got from Orlando Christian Prep in their previous matchup last Friday. Can City of Life Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
