Jil Livengood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Bowers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Spahlinger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wake Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matches.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Corinth Holders and Fuquay - Varina, and Corinth Holders kept the tradition alive. The Pirates put the hurt on the Bengals with a sharp 8-1 win on Tuesday.
Elizabeth McKenzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
On the hitting side, Ava Marks was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Mia Gwynn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Corinth Holders has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wake Forest, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Both Wake Forest and Corinth Holders just can't seem to miss. The Cougars have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Corinth Holders struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wake Forest was able to grind out a solid victory over Corinth Holders in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
