Newtown is 9-1 against New Milford since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Nighthawks will host the Green Wave at 4:15 p.m.
Newtown is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Waterford on Saturday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers. The Nighthawks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, New Milford came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 17-0 shutout. Give the Green Wave's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Nea Plisko made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, New Milford let Lilly Fortier and Cienna McNamara run wild. Fortier fired off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while McNamara fired off two home runs, three runs, and one stolen base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, Fortier posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Regan O'Loughlin, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
New Milford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .419 or higher in three consecutive contests.
New Milford's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newtown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Newtown skirted past New Milford 2-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Nighthawks repeat their success, or do the Green Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
