Miller School of Albemarle has gone a perfect 10-0 against The Covenant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mavericks will welcome the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Miller School of Albemarle will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Miller School of Albemarle's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Eastern Mennonite with a sharp 10-0 win. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.
Miller School of Albemarle got a great performance from Nathan Duncan as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Connor Lockhart was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ty Pallante, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Miller School of Albemarle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Mennonite only posted an OBP of .143.
Meanwhile, The Covenant didn't have quite enough to beat Virginia Episcopal School on Tuesday and fell 5-4. The Eagles have struggled against the Bishops recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
McKinley Pattie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jonathan Albert made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. Phillip Venton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Miller School of Albemarle's victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for The Covenant, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Miller School of Albemarle was able to grind out a solid victory over The Covenant in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
