Hazen has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Bellevue Wolverines at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Hazen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
Last Monday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Hazen had to settle for a 42-40 defeat against Bethel.
Despite the defeat, Hazen got a solid performance out of Dakota Nap, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Nap's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was India Andrews, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bellevue lost to Lake Washington on the road by a decisive 72-54 margin on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bellevue in their matchups with Lake Washington: they've now lost nine in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Selene Morrell, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for she. Syesha Simanton was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Hazen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Bellevue, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hazen have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Bellevue, though, as they've been averaging only 30.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hazen came up short against Bellevue in their previous meeting back in January, falling 61-50. Can Hazen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
