The Evangel Christian Academy Eagles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Washington Lions at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Evangel Christian Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-29 to Huntington.
Despite the defeat, Evangel Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Damari Drake rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Drake was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Another player making a difference was Parker Fulghum, who picked up 137 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Washington came up short against Minden on Friday and fell 16-8. Washington has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Evangel Christian Academy's defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Neville and 12-2 E.D. White (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.5% over those games). As for Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Evangel Christian Academy against Washington in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 49-0 win. Will Evangel Christian Academy repeat their success, or does Washington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
