Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Fossil Ridge SaberCats

The Chaparral Wolverines will take on the Fossil Ridge SaberCats in a tournament on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fossil Ridge is hoping to do what Broomfield couldn't on Wednesday: put an end to Chaparral's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Chaparral strolled past Broomfield with points to spare, taking the game 73-59.

Chaparral found their leader in sophomore Christian Williams, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds. The contest was Williams' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Howery, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge posted their biggest victory since January 23rd on Wednesday. They breezed by Grandview to the tune of 57-30. The SaberCats pushed the score to 47-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wolves cut but never quite recovered from.

Fossil Ridge found their leader in sophomore Jaimeson Peterson, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Walker, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Chaparral pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Chaparral has been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 43.8% of their three-pointers per game. However, it's not like Fossil Ridge struggles in that department as they've drained 40.5% of their three-pointers this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
