Owyhee has gone a perfect 4-0 against Centennial recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Storm will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Owyhee will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Owyhee got the win against Capital by a conclusive 8-2. The Storm might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Heath Sasser-Gunson looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Gage Haws was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Easton Price, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Centennial faced Mountain View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Mavericks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted against the Mavericks since March 13, 2020.
Cannon Haws made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Haws was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
Haws wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Belton, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Owyhee's win was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 18-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Owyhee has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Owyhee came out on top in a nail-biter against Centennial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Storm since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
