Robertson had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it six. They fell just short of the Sandia Prep Sundevils by a score of 7-6. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Sundevils when the teams met back in June of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Elijah Ortiz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
As for Sandia Prep, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.
On Sandia Prep's side, Lucas Ruelas was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ruelas was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Lemons, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Sandia Prep is undefeated when Lemons posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Jonas Mahboub was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Robertson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-7 win against Pojoaque Valley on the 21st. As for Sandia Prep, they will challenge St. Michael's at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sundevils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Horsemen have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
