Norfolk is a perfect 4-0 against Omaha South since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Norfolk Panthers will be playing at home against the Omaha South Packers at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Norfolk and 12 for Omaha South.
Last Saturday, Norfolk came up short against Burke and fell 69-60.
Despite the loss, Norfolk got top-tier performance from Bo Caskey, who almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 48.3% of Norfolk's points, marking the third time in a row Caskey has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Skylar Indra, who had 12 points and seven boards.
Even though they lost, Norfolk smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Omaha South played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Gross Catholic and fell 80-24. The Packers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-16.
Norfolk will need to focus on slowing down Eve Hodoly, one of several Omaha South players who made an impact when they last played. She scored eight points. Aubrey Harper was another key player, putting up nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Norfolk's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Omaha South, their loss dropped their record down to 2-18.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Norfolk has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Omaha South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Norfolk strolled past Omaha South when the teams last played back in February of 2022 by a score of 65-46. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Omaha South's Skye Giddings, who went 8-for-17 en route to 26 points. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for Norfolk to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
