Basketball Recap: Juan Ramirez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Economedes over Hanna

After flying high against San Perlita last Tuesday, Economedes came back down to earth. The Economedes Jaguars took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hanna Golden Eagles on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 835th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 382nd).

Economedes' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juan Ramirez, who posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Ramirez a new career-high in points. Aniel Solis was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven boards and four blocks.

Economedes' loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Hanna, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Economedes will head out to square off against Zapata at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th. The timing isn't great for Zapata: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Economedes has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Hanna, they will venture away from home to take on La Feria at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th.
