It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Gonzales Spartans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They escaped with a win against North Salinas by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. The win was just what Gonzales needed coming off of a 96-35 loss in their prior contest.
Despite the defeat, North Salinas saw an underclassman step up: Andre Lizaola scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Logan Bayhonan was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Gonzales' victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for North Salinas, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Gonzales will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Soledad at 12:00 p.m. North Salinas won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pajaro Valley at 11:00 a.m. on December 29th. Pajaro Valley is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
