The Chatfield Chargers will face off against the Monarch Coyotes at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chatfield will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Chatfield barely beat Dakota Ridge the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Brody Batz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Keir Traurig looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Back at the plate, Brody Logan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Colin Metz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Chatfield lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Monarch's offense. They lost 7-0 to Erie on Tuesday. The Coyotes just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Landon Resch was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Monarch saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Hutchings, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Hutchings' first of the season.
Monarch's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Chatfield, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4.
Chatfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Monarch in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Coyotes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
